North Carolina has 37 native snake species, of which six are venomous: the copperhead, Eastern cottonmouth, timber rattlesnake, Eastern diamondback rattlesnake, Carolina pigmy rattlesnake, and Eastern coral snake. In Western North Carolina's mountain communities, the copperhead and timber rattlesnake are the venomous species most likely to be encountered, while the cottonmouth is far less common in high-elevation areas. Non-venomous species such as the black rat snake, corn snake, and ring-neck snake are abundant and beneficial, controlling rodent populations around homes and farms. Snakes enter structures through foundation cracks, crawlspace vents without screens, garage door gaps, and improperly sealed utility penetrations. Cool, damp crawlspaces are especially attractive to rat snakes and copperheads during warm weather. We identify the species before removal, handle venomous snakes with appropriate equipment, and seal the access points that enabled entry. We do not use snake repellents, which are ineffective, and we do not harm non-venomous species unnecessarily.

How quickly can you respond to a wildlife problem?
Response time depends on the nature and severity of the situation. We do our best to schedule an inspection within 24 to 48 hours for most calls. Can you remove bats from my home?
Yes. Bat exclusion is one of our core services. It must be timed correctly, however. North Carolina follows maternity-season restrictions, exclusion cannot be performed while non-flying juvenile bats are present inside the roost, typically May 1 through August 15. If you have bats, we will inspect the roost, identify the species and entry points, and schedule the exclusion work at the appropriate time. We also handle bat guano cleanup and attic restoration after the exclusion is complete.
What are the signs that I have wildlife in my attic?
The most common signs are sounds, scratching, thumping, running noises, or chittering in the ceiling or attic, especially around dawn and dusk for raccoons and bats, or during the day for squirrels. You may also notice damaged soffits or fascia visible from the ground, an ammonia-like odor coming from above, or dark staining on the ceiling. A visual inspection from the ground sometimes reveals a torn soffit panel or an obvious entry hole at the roofline.
