Wildlife removal is one of those services where timeline expectations vary dramatically from what homeowners expect. Many people assume it is a same-day fix: one visit, animal gone, done. The reality depends significantly on the species, whether young animals are present, and whether the job includes structural exclusion and cleanup. Here is an honest breakdown of common timelines for WNC wildlife situations.
Raccoon in the Attic
Without young (September – January): Inspection, trap placement, and usually 3 to 7 trap-check intervals before the animal is captured and removed. Exclusion and cleanup can begin immediately after capture. Total timeline: 1 to 2 weeks from inspection to completion.
With nursing young (February – May): Exclusion cannot proceed until the young are mobile, typically 8 to 10 weeks after birth. Timeline from inspection to full completion: up to 12 weeks. The work is staged, with inspection first, then a waiting period, then removal and exclusion once the young can travel.
Squirrels in the Attic
Squirrel removal by trapping typically takes 1 to 3 weeks, as individual animals must be trapped out one at a time. One-way exclusion devices are an alternative method that takes slightly longer but does not require daily trap checks, the device is left in place for 5 to 7 days to allow all animals to exit. The full job, including sealing, typically completes in 2 to 3 weeks.
Bat Exclusion
Bat exclusion is the most timing-dependent job we do. If you call during the maternity season (May 1 – August 15), exclusion cannot begin until mid-August. Outside that window, the exclusion process itself takes 5 to 10 days: one-way devices are installed and left in place for the bats to exit over several nights, then removed and the openings permanently sealed. Guano cleanup is scheduled after the exclusion is confirmed complete.
Snakes
A snake found inside the home is typically resolved in a single visit if the animal is still present and accessible. Structural exclusion to prevent future entry, sealing foundation gaps, crawlspace vents, and under-door gaps, adds time based on the extent of work needed.
Skunks Under a Deck or Porch
Live trapping typically resolves in 3 to 7 days. Installation of a buried hardware cloth barrier follows and can be completed in one visit after removal. Total timeline: 1 to 2 weeks.
